Every day at First Serve Tennis we have a new customer or regular customer walk in and ask us about tennis elbow and what we recommend for the condition. We always engage in a discussion about tennis elbow and what can cause it and attempt to identify what the customer might be doing that is causing their discomfort in the elbow area.
We always remind our customers that tennis elbow is a condition in which the outer part of the elbow becomes sore and tender. The forearm muscles and tendons become damaged from overuse — repeating the same strenuous motions again and again.
The next step in our discussion deals with their tennis racquet and its current string set up. 9 out of 10 times, we find that the main issue isn’t overuse but rather the type of string and tension in their racquet.
Over the years, many different string manufacturers have released string technologies boasting their elbow friendly properties. One of my favorite strings to recommend to tennis players who suffer from tennis elbow is Tecnifibre TGV.
TGV is a multifilament string from Tecnifibre that is made of bundles of micro fibers, imbued with Polyurethane 400. According to Tecnifibre, the composite micro fiber bundles give TGV its dynamic properties and power. The Polyurethane 400, which makes up 45 percent of the string, can stretch up to 400 percent of its length, providing comfort by reducing shock and vibration. TGV is also coated with Silicone Pyrogene Lubritec (SPL) to improve durability by reducing abrasion that can lead to notching and wear. Tecnifibre TGV is the softest string on the market and in fact Tecnifibre recommends it for players who suffer from tennis elbow or arm issues who want a soft string with maximum comfort.
If you suffer from tennis elbow, I HIGHLY recommend this multifilament string from Tecnifibre. We have had countless customers with elbow and arm issues switch to Tecnifibre TGV and have found it to fix their ailments and are now back on the court playing regularly.
Tecnifibre TGV comes in natural color and is available in 16g and 17g at First Serve Tennis.
