String Company Review: Laserfibre

The name Laserfibre may be old but this is a brand new company with new owners, new management, new R&D team, and a EPIC NEW line of high performance string.  I had the privilege of visiting with Josh Hausman of Laserfibre which is based out Chicago, Ill.

Rich – Hi Josh, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with me about Laserfibre.

Josh – You bet, no problem Rich.

Rich – So Josh, Laserfibre is not a new brand name. How you guys decided to use the name Laserfibre?

Josh – The brand Laserfibre always had a strong following in the early 2000’s as they were known for making a very high quality string and had a strong following in key tennis markets. So knowing this and that the brand had disappeared for 10 years, we felt like there would be a place to re-launch the brand both as a new brand and for those who remember the brand for their past quality.

Rich – Tell us about the new Laserfibre brand. What is the vision for the company?

Josh – We are a small group of tennis industry veterans (Curt Dailey, Paul Zalatoris, and myself) that have a passion for the tennis industry. Our goal is to create the highest quality products while offering affordable prices to the tennis consumer.

Rich – Josh that maybe a small group but a group of ALL-STARS nevertheless.

Rich – Josh tell us about the line of high performance strings that Laserfibre is currently offering?

Josh –  Our Laser 1200 string is one of the softest true multifilament strings in the market. It uses more than 1200 individual microfibers all bound together by (PU) polyurethane for extra comfort.  The playtest feedback continues to be amazing when compared against top selling multifilament strings that are currently in the marketplace.  Our Vorso string is one of the most unique co-poly strings in the market that we continue to receive positive feedback about. Its regarded as a “comfort poly” with an elongation and stiffness rating comparable to some of the best multifilament strings currently in the tennis industry.  This is extremely rare for a co-poly monofilament string to have characteristics of a premium multifilament string.  We highly recommend pre-stretching for optimal performance and break in time.

Rich – Wow Josh! That is truly amazing! Imagine a polyester string that has the same performance characteristics of a multifilament string. That is NUTS!  Please go on!

Josh –  Yes Rich we are extremely excited about Vorso.

Josh – Our other polyester strings are named Laser Smooth and Laser Edge. Our Laser Smooth string was designed to offer players a more traditional co-poly with enhanced durability and snap back. Although it is technically a firmer string than Vorso, it is still quite comfortable while having a crisp feel players love. Some of the feedback from players has been that Laser Smooth holds its tension extremely well and is a very consistent string. Our Laser Edge string is uses a very similar formula to that of Laser Smooth. However, unlike the Laser Smooth, the Laser Edge has 7 sides to its construction thus enhancing spin potential for players that take bug “cuts” at the ball.

Rich – Most of our customers tend to complain that polyester strings lose so much tension over a short period of time so I am so happy to learn that Laserfibre has taken a HUGE step in correcting this problem.

Rich – Josh, aside from these amazing new products we have been discussing, what else sets Laserfibre apart from the competition?

Josh – We understand the string industry is a crowded market however we also feel like we can introduce something refreshing to the tennis industry in way of technology stories while keeping our range easy to understand for consumers and players. We are very passionate about players of all levels and ages developing their game. As a former college coach, I want to offer a variety of products that allow players to progress with our brand to suit their needs every step of the way.

Rich –  Are there any college teams, nationally ranked juniors, or ATP/WTA pros currently using Laserfibre string?

Josh – Yes in a very short time we have partnered with several of the top college programs to use Laserfibre strings. We also continue to get several top nationally ranked junior players using our strings as well.  We do have some ATP/WTA players using our strings and hope to have more come aboard in the near future.

Rich – that is OUTSTANDING Josh.

Rich – I have one final question for you Josh. What does the future hold for Laserfibre? Care to share any “coming soon” products with my readers?

Josh – You bet Rich! We are very excited about launching our new string, Supreme 2.0 later this spring. This will be another true multifilament string with over 1200 fibers that offers a comfortable yet crisp feel, added durability, and rates as one of the highest tested multifilament strings for tension maintenance outside of natural gut. We feel this will be a perfect compliment to Laser 1200.

Rich – Josh I know my customers will be so excited to try this new Supreme 2.0 multifilament string!

Rich – Is there anything else you would like like to divulge to my readers in regard to new to coming products?

Josh –  I am not at liberty to give too many details for obvious reasons but one of our big goals is to manufacture our strings here in the USA!  I can tell you that we are currently testing several products using special fibers that will put us on that path very soon.

Rich – WOW!!! Made in USA strings! I’m glad to see Laserfibre is doing their part to “Make America Great Again” haha!

Josh – Hahahaha!! Yes we will certainly do our part!

Rich – Thank you so much Josh for spending time with me this evening.

Josh – NO Rich, THANK YOU for believing in Laserfibre and in what we are trying to build through our key partners like First Serve Tennis.  It’s a privilege for us to be associated with one of the most iconic tennis specialty stores in the country.

Rich  – Thank you Josh for such kind words. Have a great week!

The entire line of Laserfibre strings are now available at First Serve Tennis. I invite you to come by and try this fantastic new line of high performance multifilament and polyester strings.
